We had never heard of a Common Potoo and truly never expected to see a mother and chick in the wild. These birds are masters of camouflage and often take a cryptic pose where they blend into the brand they are roosting upon, the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica.
This photograph was taken on a night hike where we were fortunate to find the smallest kingfisher in the Americas. A roosting American Pygmy Kingfisher in the forest near Hacienda Baru, Costa Rica.
The Rufous-tailed Hummingbird is found throughout most of Costa Rica; we photographed this one near the Rio San Carlos in Costa Rica.
